Winter lurgy has struck...

Sorry I have not posted, both girls caught a chest infection and has taken well over a Week to recover from it, boo has avoided antibiotics because of her instability but is coming out the other side (thank goodness)!

Boo is still on a minimal diet but we have the go ahead to trial her with onion, mushroom and lentils, obviously one at a time slowly but in the hope that she can have sausages and lentils again which she loved..soso is just recovering from being I'll and the antibiotics so her behaviour is slightly manic at times but slowly we are getting through and thankfully they should be both so much better by Christmas that they can really enjoy it!!

I hate been shut indoors all day and after a week of it it felt great dropping soso off at preschool and hitting the park this afternoon too, life isnt too bad and food isnt that important either in the scheme of things, it's a function that you need to survive but I think we make too much of the enjoyment, don't get me wrong I love a tasty meal but potato and mash will do, you an find enjoyment elsewhere that's just as satisfying and it's a lesson that I feel my girls need to learn. You can socialise in other ways Than having a meal or eating out.....but it's going to be a hard lesson for us all....

Just getting m head round Christmas so will post our meal plans as soon as I get them done!

1 step forwards 2 steps back : (

Things were going so smoothly with boo's re-introduction of food but we have hit a setback after 1 week. What is corsing the blockage who knows..its either the broccoli she tried on friday or just toom much banana (only a tiny amount a day but it may just be too much).

Anyway we have stripped her diet back yet again to rice, potatoe and meat to try and get things moving again and then we can try broccoli without the banana and see which one is the issue.

On a positive she is in a great place, walking everywhere, giggling all the time and chasing around the house with soso! At least she is happy thats the main thing.

Soso seems to have settled down post oats trial but has lost her interest in food only eating at meal times and less than before which for us is a good thing. She used to be obsessive about food, crave it all the time and have a huge plate full and want to eat again within 30mins, it has been difficult to constantly say no, redirect her attention all the time but maybe the flare up rebouted her system or she realised the pain she felt is a reaction not hunger so understands her body better now. She hasn't had a reaction like that for quite a while so now older maybe her understanding it better. The problem is there is no list that fits all, every child is different so we learn as we go.. always adapting and learning.

Banana cake.

Well boo has had 5 days on rice, potatoes and meat diet and things have settled down significantly. Apart from the pain meds I gave her in the middle of the night yesterday for her cutting tooth things have been tolerated really well and I feel so much more positive, :)

Anyway the time to reintroduce a new food has come and we decided on banana, why? well it's filling, tasty, portable and I can be quite creative with it! One of soso's favourite things is banana cake And as I'm Christmas shopping all day and she is spending her 1st full day a pre-school I thought it would be a nice great for everyone.

So here is our significantly adapted recipe, add in the real thing if you an tolerate it but as it is this tastes really yummy!!

1 medium banana
3 tbsp oil (any kind)
50g sugar
110g rice flour
1 tsp baking powder (gluten free)
1 tsp xanthum gum
1.5 tbs egg replacer (powder)
3 tbsp water
1 cap of vanilla extract (if ok)
1 handful of raisins (optional)

Mix together until a firm batter and place in either a oiled loaf tin or round oiled cake tin and cook at 180 celsius for 30 mins (aprox).

Remove from tin and leave to cool.

About SoSo and Boo...

Soso and boo are my beautiful baby girls. I could not be prouder of them or more passionate about everything they do (as any parent would be).

Our journey with food began almost 3 years ago it has been long, complicated, joyus and is now entering a new phase of complete confusion.

What do you give a baby who can't tolerate food???

My girls have a condition called Eosinophillic gastrointestinal disease, (simply) it is an inflammatory bowel disease caused by food. There body reacts to most food causing behavioural symptoms, gastro inflammation, joint pain, vomiting, headaches and many more symptoms. I am lucky soso's condition can be managed by nalcrom (anti inflammatory)and exclusion diet. Unsafe foods are, dairy, soy, wheat, gluten, corn, oats, egg, tomatoes, peas, tuna, apple, mango, pineapple... I think that's it but it is forever changing.

Whilst SoSo has been stable for a few months the 1oz of oats milk we tried her on created a huge reaction so her diet is stripped back as before. That I can cope with...
Boo however is reacting to everything, we have stripped her and my diet back to rice, potato and meat for a week to clear her system in the hope her inflammation goes down and the reintroduction of food can begin.

The hardest thing for us is that we always thought boo would be the same as SoSo but never really considered her being worse or unsafe foods being different. It's been really hard for me to get my head round, I thought I had his condition down and we were doing great then the curve ball got thrown.

So my re-education about food has begun, I am going to have to get even more serious about providing the girls with the best nutritionally balanced diet I possible can no matter how limited it is,and be as creative as possible with those ingredients.

I hope you can take ideas from what I post, leave comments and suggestions to help me out too, I have had a really s**t but I'm going to be proactive and do my best.
